I very rarely do reviews on products on my blog.
Because I know so little about so many things.
The vastness of my ignorance would astound you.
But I wanted to share this product with you.
I grew up as a blond.
Who apparently didn't own a comb.
And my hair got darker as I got older.
And my dresses got shorter.
And through high school my hair turned a dark brown with red highlights.
And I've been dying my hair red for the past 15 years.
Anyone with red color treated hair knows that it is the hardest color to maintain.
It looks wonderful for the first week, then it fades.
Mine turns brassy.
Orangy.
It's not a good look.
I've tried color safe shampoos and conditioners like John Frieda's Radiant Red
Captivating Collection.
Which did absolutely nothing for me.
I've tried John Frieda's Color Glaze.
Which left my hair greasy and my palms stained but my hair still orange.
I finally found a product that not only helps to maintain my color but it deposits color into my hair.
I went to an Aveda Salon for a haircut and was told that they could make a special conditioner for me.
It's called Aveda's Personal Blends.
I chose the color and the scent and my stylist added them to my conditioner.
She used red and violet to counteract the gold, brassy undertones.
I was about due for a color but decided to try this instead.
I washed my hair then applied the conditioner and left it on for about 5 minutes.
I was amazed after I dried my hair.
It looked as though I had just had it done.
It was shiny and the brassiness was gone.
I'm finding that I only need to use this about once a week to maintain my color.
And I am loving that!
It was $15.00 for a 6.7 oz bottle.
But so worth it.
I know that they can make this for any hair color so if you find that you are coloring your locks a lot more often than you want to, you may want to give this a try.

My own sweet daughter is a (bottle) red head. I will tell her about this, thanks Holly.
I haven't ever tried their hair products but have heard great things about their facial products which I could use. Things are starting to get a little crunchy. I love gingies. They have the best color of all.
Your post title caught my eye!
As a former mousy brown now redhead, I can relate TOTALLY to the fading/brassy look that happens.
I've colored my own for years, used every 'red' on the planet and am currently used Feria #68. It is pretty red with maroon undertones.
But I know ME. I'll get tired of it and use another red shade somewhere down the line.
Your Aveeda product DOES sound like it may help. My problem is that there is no salon anywhere close to me and I suppose you have to have an appt to get this made. Bummer.
Guess I'll be wearing alot of hats this summer.
Thanks for sharing Holly. Perhaps one day I'll be in a real city and will see if I can find this!
Have a great weekend!
I think you make a great red head,, wouldn't have known it wasn't natural. You really have a red head personality,, spicy, quirky and happy, funny, and smart, there all done,
That sounds wonderful. However, my roots are glaring white before I could ever use the conditioner to inhance the rest of my color. I sure wish something would keep the gray roots under wraps longer. Your hair color fits your spunky personality perfectly.
What a sharing girl you are! I love a good recommendation. (Not that I color my hair or anything)
I am a natural redhead...I have never colored it, but I noticed that my red fades sometimes as well...in the cooler months...so I use henna...it is a natural way to bring out the red highlights.
HI Holly! Oh, I thought the red was a natural color - it looks perfect on you. I use a sort of reddish dark blonde on my hair and I like it too. I'm so fair and with my blue eyes I think it works for me. I could be just fooling myself! :)
You're beautiful!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
How great is that! You high maintenance red heads! :)
A friend of mine uses one of their color depositing brown conditioners and she loves it too.
Thanks for sharing this info, I'll pass it along the all the redheads I know.
That's interesting to know. I'm a natural redhead, but red fades into this nondescript dirty blondish brownish color that's not a real color at all. I actually dye my hair to get it to the color it was 20 years ago. I may just have to track down an Aveda salon. Thanks for the tip! :-)
Glad you found a keeper product woo hoo!!
Funny my dresses got shorter as the years have gone on too. Oops :)
I could tell by looking at your picture that your hair was colored.
I am a natural red head. My 31 year old daughter has gorgeous
strawberry blonde hair.
And my 38 year old so has
dark red hair. I love it!

Fading is a problem for dark blondes as well. I'll have to ask about Aveda's Personal Blends at my salon.
And once again your mom is stylin.
I love product reviews, especially from REAL people :)
I have used Aveda products in the past, I see this one n my future...thank you!
Well, unlike anonymous up there, I could NOT tell your hair was colored? What the heck??? Geez!! What I do know, is that your hair is beautiful! The color suits you perfectly. It is so great to find a product you love like that! My natural color....WHITE!!!!
