Sometimes I Do Things

If you know me at all,
this post will not surprise you in the least.

Of all the things I am known for,
the most prevailing would be my forgetfulness
and the rate at which my mind is decaying.

I am well known for my
consistent inability to remember anything.

Like my anniversary.
And my husband's birthday.
And to take the garlic bread out of the oven before it burns.

Mmmmm, garlic bread.

What was I talking about?
Oh, forgetfulness.
And Mental Decay.

So it shouldn't surprise you that
this morning when my washing machine did it's
little "ting-a-ling" thing
and I went to move the clothes into the dryer
that I found I had never put the clothes in the washer
in the first place.

On the up-side,
my washer is squeaky clean.

Having said that,
one could only assume that I had lost my mind once again
after seeing this picture.

On the contrary,
I did this outlandish thing on purpose.
And here's why.

I bought these brand new Brighton Shoes
at a consignment shop for $6.00.
Leather and velvet, yes please!

They were a little snug in the toes
and at the balls of my chubby little feet.
But they were $6.00
and they were Brighton's!
So I bought them and tried to stretch
them out by wearing them.
Painful.
Don't do that.

And then the wide world web came to my rescue.
What did we do before the Internet?

I filled freezer bags 1/3 full and placed one in each shoe
and then stuck them in the freezer.
As the water turns to ice,
it expands and stretches out the shoe.

Just leave them in the freezer overnight.
Take the shoes out in the morning and let the ice thaw
before taking the bags out.
Try them on.
If they are still too tight,
you can repeat the process.

I only had to do this once.
And now they fit like a glove.
If I wore a glove on my foot.
Which I don't.
Yet.
But really, we all know it's just a matter of time.

OMG, my sweet Holly is back! You scored on this post, decaying mind lady. There should be an app for that...I wonder if freezing bags of ice in my levis would make them less tight on my chubby thighs. It's worth a try, I tell you. I do enjoy you.

Well dang! I wish I'd known that back in high school when it was popular (and I would do anything to be popular) to wear a size 5 shoe and not more than a 6 and my foot was a 7 1/2. So I bought some shoes to "fit in" and of course you know how many times I wore them to school and walking between all those classes.

Why can't we be born old so we could get those stupid years out of our hair. :)

Penny loafers.....1960....leather....SNUG.

I SURE coulda used this tip back then, but I didn't know you yet and the internet hadn't been invented.

Now I wear shoes that are loose and comfy.

BTW, how long did it take you to remember that your shoes were in the freezer???

I leave Thurs for a week. It had BETTER be nice in VA or I'm gonna be cranky. Or skarky (Jo's word).

Oh I love it!!! And yeah, less painful than stretching them by wearing them...
I'm sure the reaction in my house would be (upon seeing shoes in the freezer) "Yeah, I don't even know anymore...."

What a great tip.
I have chubby feet too...I blame it on bare feet, almost all the time.
Anywho, I loved this post it make me smile...and made me not feel so badly about myself. I am a ditz...and seem to be getting more so. Always have been quirky, but the onset of menopause or peri-menopause... whatever this is...isn't helping. Nice to know I am not the only one.
I would love to put some shoes in the freezer, just to see what hubby would say. hahahahaha

I have done the same thing with my washing machine and on laundry day there is chance that I will forget to start the dryer at least once. I blame all of the other things on my mind for my forgetfulness.

I will try to remember the tip for stretching out shoes.

I forget everything,EVERYTHING, but have never forgotten to put the clothes in the washer, so thank you for making me feel a bit better about myself this morning. Now I will make you feel better about yourself: After picking up my kids from school at 3:30 every day for like a bajillion years, I recently changed the pickup time in my head to 2:30. I don't know why. As I was driving to pick them up, i started thinking, "Man, when I was in elementary school, we didn't get out until 3:30. Kids these days have it so easy!" And then I finally realized I was a doofus and had the wrong time and turned around and drove home.
