Doctors, Soup and Cake

I've been fighting this weird sinus thing
for the past couple months.
I thought it was just allergies at first.
And I've been fighting it with OTC meds.
I just don't like going to the doctor.
Then about two weeks ago it just got worse.
At night, I couldn't breathe.
And I couldn't sleep.
But still I didn't want to go to the doctor.
I tried just about everything out there.

And then I just couldn't stand it anymore.
I had big plans for this weekend and
I wanted to feel good.
So I went to the doctor.
Antibiotics
Steroids
Inhaler
Nasal Spray
Antihistamine

He said that my sinuses were so
swollen that he couldn't see anything and
had to do an xray of my head.

Is that weird?

Do people that have colds get their heads xrayed normally?
I think not.
He kind of yelled at me and said
that if a sinus infection is not treated
it can go to the brain.

Whatever.

Like I'm using that.
Chill out Doctor.
Thank God I didn't have an actual emergency.

So, I will be finished with all my meds
by Saturday which is awesome
because I'm going to be hanging out
with my Blog Buddies all weekend.

So then this morning I knew I needed soup.
Spicy Cheesy Chicken Soup.

It's truly delicious.

And chock full of veggies and chicken
and cheesiness
and spices that open my sinuses.

You can find the recipe here.
And her picture is so much prettier that I'll post it here.
So yummy and worth the effort!

Now, let's move on to cake.
Because everyone loves cake.

My husband has been craving my pumpkin cake
but I just haven't felt up to making a cake from
scratch lately.
When I was at the grocery today,
I saw something new in the baking aisle.
I figured I'd give it a try.
Duncan Hines Apple Caramel Cake.

I figured even I could find the time
and energy to make a boxed cake.

After mixing the batter and pouring it in a pan
you randomly spread some
caramel apple sauce on top
and bake.

I can tell you that it looks and smells really good.

Next time I would use a smaller pan than a 9x13.
It was a little thinner than I like.
I would love to tell you that it was delicious.

While it smelled great
I was unable to taste it because
I burnt my tongue
on my soup.
Because I am an extremely impatient soup eater.

Now off to do laundry
and dishes
and probably clean up the yard a little.

You are so brave, talking back to your doctor and snorting in the face of brain infections. I can't wait to hear about your CA adventures.

Once I went to the ER because something felt seriously wrong in my brain. I thought it was blood pressure or some crazy thing I suddenly had. Everything was normal but they wanted to scan my head. Turns out it was a sinus infection. They told me "Yes you had a lot of symptoms for one" (but I wasn't stuffy or anything so I never even thought of it) - I still wonder why they didn't just look up my nose.

Oh my you really waited too long for the doctor. As a life long sinus sufferer you can't let them get too bad. I try to keep mine maintained these days so they are never out of hand. Darn things. Hope you enjoy your weekend.

Shame on you! I am the same way though. I do not go running to the doctor unless I am in dire straights!! Glad you got meds and will be feeling well for the weekend.
The soup and cake both looked and sounded wonderful. When the weather cools, I become a cooking fool!!! Not there yet. Still too warm.
Can't wait til Saturday!

Two words.

Second opinion.

If it doesn't get better, of course.

My hubby kept having a stuffed up nose..he went to the doctor more times than you can imagine...it got worse...then he finally got in to see the allergist who promptly told him that he had polups growing in there...steroids helped for a while but they grow back...not fun for him! I saw that cake mix in the store...I wondered about it. I hope we can go to lunch before Sugar blog...where are you staying?

Can you imagine what would have happened if that sinus infection really did get into your poor brain! Sure hope the meds fix you up.

By the way, what was that mouldy looking thing in the plastic bag there with your soup ingredients? Did you actually put it in? Just wondering.

OK. OK. Triangle of death!! Have you heard of it. Make triangle touching index fingers and thumbs together. Put it up to your forehead. TRIANGLE OF DEATH!!Really--that's where sinus infections are--triangle of death. It's serious. I think you probably will be fine, however. If not, it could go right to your brain. But with that burned tongue you probably won't feel it. Yes, those cakes smell better than they taste even with a burned tongue and plugged nose. I had my sinuses X-rayed once. I didn't die. I'm glad you didn't die. Read my blog to find out that hair lady didn't die. I hope you enjoy the bloggy thing this weekend. Don't die on my, Holly. I need you! Heal and live!!

I hope you start feeling better soon. I get sinus infections at least twice a year. I hate them. The worst one did NOT go to my brain. I ended up with reactive bronchitis. Now when I get a sinus infection I usually get a little bronchitis with it. Oy! Good luck. Have fun with your bloggy friends.

You better hurry up and get better fast! BTW, my thighs do NOT thank you for alerting them to the new cake.

Ya had me worried there for a minute Holly!! I was afraid dr was going to order you to stay home. Glad he did not!! Take your meds and feel better soon. Don't want that infection going to your brain!
Soup looks tasty, but I am like my mom and am a wimp when it comes to spicy. Cake looks good too! Hope the hubby liked it.

Sorry to hear you have been battling a sinus infection but glad you got some good medicine. I too have been battling a sinus infection and understand how it gets you down. Now for something more positive...your soup! It looks delicious and I cannot wait to make it. I want a piece of that cake, RIGHT NOW!!! Enjoy your weekend.

Yum, that soup looks SO good! Sorry you haven't been feeling well. =( I hate sinus infections! The past few weeks have been awful allergy-wise for me too, I've been taking 3 meds a day. Yuck! Hope you feel all better soon.

I never go to the doctor because it is ALWAYS a sinus infection! I don't need for them to tell me what I already know. Except that one time about 4 years ago when I didn't feel quite right and had 103degree fever. I went to the doctor then. If my temp went any higer they were sending me to the hospital. Luckily it went down.

I am glad you went and got meds - and yes they can pass the barrier between the sinus's and the brain - my mom was in rehab once and I met a woman it happened too - a lot of neurological issues. And yes I've had x-rays!

Have fun this weekend with your friends.

love,
mom (chatty)

Oh my, I hope you're better and that you had an incredible time. I think I've permanently damaged something with all these paint fumes, so no matter what, everything smells (and tastes) like paint - even when I'm outdoors.

Did you miss me? I've been working in NYC. Anytime I go there, I always think of the movie "The Out Of Towners" and I'm just thankful to get home alive and with my purse.

I'm getting caught up on your blog/life now that I'm back. On the glamping thing - hate to be a party pooper, but what if it rains?

Aren't sinus issues just yucky? I've been dealing with mine for over a year now & they never get better. My problem is post nasal drip & swollen glands. I sure hope yours gets all better soon!

That soup looks yummy. Never heard of it before but it does look good. Just fyi- I'm an impatient soup eater too LOL

I have a recipe that I'm making tomorrow for a Caramel Apple Cake. It's made from scratch but looks fairly easy. Go figure I could have just made it out of a box LOL

Happy Friday!!
