Don't Swish and Drive!!

Remember a couple weeks ago when I was complaining about my hair?  Well, do you?  I talked about it here.  Go ahead, read about it, I'll be here when you come back.

I know that you didn't go look at that post like I told you to but let's go ahead and move on and pretend that you did what you were told.

Does this look familiar?
Anyway,  I finally decided to do something about my bowling ball shaped, orange hard hat wearing head.
I went to Rolf's!

What's that you say?  No, Zee Zuper Cuts it would not do.  I was in dire need of a good cut.  I knew I was in the right place when I saw these smiling faces!

And no sips from a rusty water fountain at this place.  Drinks and cookies and snacks, Oh my!

I even took a picture of myself in the lovely pink bathroom so you could see how bad my hair looked before.  Just as I was taking this photo, somone knocked on the door and I dropped the camera in the sink.

I told you my hair was bad!
Then I met Michelle.  The lovely Michelle.  She started with a consultation where she allowed me to complain and cry and rip at my hair before dragging me off to wash it.  The scalp massage was what dreams are made of.  When she finished and I wiped the drool from my chin, she went to work with the scissors and the razor.

She looks oh so serious here.  At one point she looked at me and said, "One side of your hair is shorter than the other."   I did my best to looked surprised, "Really, huh?  That's weird."  I didn't tell her I cut gaping uneven patches out of it a couple of days before.  (Sorry, Michelle, I didn't know you that well and I wouldn't have been able stand the look of pity on your face had you known).

She snipped and chopped and sliced and when she was done I felt lighter, happier, and my hair was doing this really cool swingy thing when I turned my head.

I was feeling pretty groovy and was driving home when I noticed how great my hair smelled.  I began swishing my hair back and forth kinda fast in order to smell it better and inadvertently swerved just a tad over into the other lane.  Apparently the guy that honked at me didn't notice how cute my hair looked, nor did he acknowledge me when I pointed to my head and mouthed "Sorry, I was smelling my hair!".

Time Warp Booger Factor

Scene One: Yesterday

Husband is sitting on the couch watching Nascar because it’s Sunday and that’s what he does. I stagger in and throw myself on the loveseat with my hand on my forehead. It’s very dramatic.

Me: I think I’m getting sick.

Him: You catching a cold?

Me: I think so, I feel wonky.  Head full of boogers.

Him: Wonky?? Ok, go lay down for a while.

(This is a nice way of saying, I’m truly sorry that you’re not feeling well but I’m trying to watch the race.)

Me: No, I’m fine. You know how you feel the day you catch a cold?

Him: Yeah.

Me: Well, it’s not like that day.

Him: ........Okay??

Me: And you know how you feel the day before you catch a cold?

Him: Yeah.

Me: It’s not like that day either. It’s like the day before the day before you catch a cold. That’s how I feel.

Him: Really? Go take some Nyquil and go to bed.

I double dosed the Nyquil and slept the sleep of ten thousand babies.

Scene Two: This morning

Takes place on the back patio while drinking our coffee.

Him: You feeling better?

Me: Yes, I slept really well.

Him: So your cold is gone?

Me: Well, you know how you feel two days after your cold is gone?

Him: Yeah

Me: That’s how I feel.

Nyquil has time warp capabilities. That’s the only explanation. Somehow I went from two days before a cold to two days after a cold. With the cold duration factored in, I somehow went from Sunday to next Saturday.

SUNDAY...FUNDAY!

Good Morning Sunday!

First and foremost, please allow me to apologize for showing you my crazy obsessive side yesterday in this post while I kind of went over the edge with the raisins.  It was not pretty so I appreciate the fact that you came back at all.

Moving on....

We're feeling pretty lazy around here this morning.

I'm in desperate need of a manicure so I may do that.  When did my hands start looking like this?

I cooked a big pot of chili yesterday so it's leftovers today.  Possibly chili dogs if I get really adventurous.

See anything weird in this picture?

No?  Look closer.

Right there in the back corner.  Still don't see it?  OK, a little closer.

Seriously, you don't see it?  Can you hear it?  OK, I'm taking my life in my hands for you.

It may not look like much but there are hundreds of bees around and under our shed.  We have had a problem with them for the past year.  We call pest control, they get rid of them and then 3 months later they come back.  We were told by the company that they are Africanized.

I got a chance to organize my craft closet the other day.  It was ugly.
BEFORE

AFTER

And last but certainly not least, I got to babysit chickens the other day.  My girlfriend just bought two week old chickens and asked me to check in on them while she was at work.  Their names are Laverne and Shirley and for now they are living in her kitchen.  What???  You don't have chickens in your kitchen?

I think I'll leave you with that.

Cereal Killer!

When my husband woke up this morning and saw me in the kitchen, he immediately turned and left the room, only to return with the camera. I didn’t even think he knew we had a camera. WARNING: This picture is not pretty. This is how my husband found me this morning:

Due to the fact that we had no leftover pizza or spaghetti, I resorted to something I rarely do. I ate breakfast cereal this morning. I had a new box of Raisin Bran in the pantry and while I ate my cereal I was disappointed in the number of raisins in my bowl. I started thinking about Kellogg’s claim that they have “Two Scoops” of raisins in their raisin bran. What does this mean? Two Scoops? A scoop isn’t a unit of measure. You never see “add one scoopful of flour to the bowl” in any cookbook. What does that mean? How big are these scoops? Also, if each box has two scoops, what about the different size boxes? Is there a higher ratio of raisins to flakes in the smaller boxes? More flakes and less raisins in the larger sizes? Does the scoop size change depending on the size of the box? It would have to, right?
You can’t use the same size scoop for the 30 oz. box that you would use for the mini individual size box.
If they did use the same size scoop with that amount of raisins in such a small container, I could pretty much forget about seeing any bran what-so-ever in my bowl, couldn’t I Raisin Bran? At that point you could just call the cereal “Raisins”, and there's already a cereal like that. It's called raisins.
I began getting a little worked up about this and decided to perform a scientific test. I had another whole, unopened box of cereal which I dumped on the counter. This will irritate my husband that we have two full boxes of the same cereal opened but I did this in the name of science. This was a 30 oz box. I separated the raisins from the cereal and put the raisins in my scoop. The dog sat at my feet and ate a few stray flakes from the floor, (not so scientific).

Then I put the contents of the scoop into my 1 cup measuring cup.

Approximately, 2/3 of a cup of raisins. In other words, two 1/3 cup scoops of raisins in a 30 oz. box of raisin bran.

So, here’s my beef.

1) Kelloggs is not being specific about the amount of raisins they are putting in their raisin bran but they put “Two Scoops” on the package to make us think, “Oh WOW, Two whole scoops! That has to be more than the other brand, otherwise, why would they mention it?”

2) There are either too few scoops or the scoops are too small to my liking.

3) The front of the box also states, “Crispy, Wheat Bran Flakes” and yes, they are, until you add milk. At which point they immediately become soggy and resemble the texture of brown wet cement.

4) It could be argued that if there are at least two raisins in the box, then there are two scoops of raisins in the box.

5) Raisin Bran also claims it is part of a healthy breakfast. That is true if the other part of your breakfast is plain yogurt and a banana. It’s loaded with 17 grams of sugar and if it’s not that healthy, then gosh darn it, they should make it taste better.

6) Sunny is a scoop-wielding liar.

I think from now on, I’m buying plain bran cereal and adding my own raisins. It's not like it's a complicated process to add the raisins. That will show them.

The Nose Knows!

I recently read somewhere that Americans spend over 8.3 billion dollars a year on home fragrance products including candles, sprays, plug ins, and room fresheners. Seriously? 8.3 BILLION?? That’s more than BP spent on the Gulf Oil Spill!

This probably doesn’t come as a surprise to those of you who clip coupons. Every Sunday morning you can find about 8 pages of coupons devoted to home fragrance. I’m as guilty as the next person. I love the smell of banana bread baking without having to turn the oven on. Who doesn’t want their family room smelling like clean linen or their laundry room smelling like fresh cut grass?

These are my favorites.  I love the oil burners, the fragrance lasts longer than anything I've tried.  This time of year my favorite scents are Caramel Apple, Spiced Cider, Leaves and Kitchen Spice.

Have you tried this one yet?  Cinnamon Sugar by Febreeze?  Holy Smokes Batman, it's yummy!
These are usually in the bathroom, because I feel weird about my bathroom smelling like pumpkin pie.

Can you say, "Get off that Couch, you Stink!"?  That would be the dog, not my husband.

This is just getting embarrassing.
I don't even know what my house would smell like if I didn't have these things.  I do know that every one's "natural" house scent is different though.  I had a friend growing up who's house always smelled like Fritos.  Maybe my house stinks and no one has told me.

Random Topic Change

I'd been waiting for a package to be delivered for the past two days.  I have a large kitchen window that faces the front of the house so I spent a lot of time running into the kitchen, scanning the street and going onto the FEDEX tracking page to see where my package was.   Why doesn't FEDEX have more up to date information on their tracking system, like, "He's just around the corner!" or "He stopped off at Burger King and will be there as soon as he's finished his Whopper!"
After a couple of close calls which were actually an Arrowhead Water truck, and a truck with a scoopy thing on the front, he arrived.  Not that I ever got to see him.  The doorbell rang, I flew to the door just in time to see his dust.  I imagine this was him.

So, what was in my package?  Oh!!  So exciting!  It was my new Eureka Envirosteamer!
I immediately took it out of the box, assembled it, perused the instructions and got to work.  It was amazing!  I just love this thing.  Took dirt and gunk off the floor with just one pass.  The best part is, it uses no cleaners, just hot water.  That means, no chemical smells.  I just hate it when chemical smells interfere with my cinnamon toasty smelling laundry room smells.  Don't you?

Etsy Favorites

My mind is blank.

Wait.... No, nothing there.

I've been looking on Etsy.  I've noticed that my eye is drawn to turquoise lately.  This is new for me.  I now want to redo my entire house in turquoise, tangerine and yellows.  So, so many beautiful things:

Loving this blown glass ornament ball from wolfartglass
And this reversible headband from Kitmit
And this toddler bed quilt from Quiltville
I adore this "Sunshiny" print from Farouche
How cute are these fabric push pins from Paperpumpkin ?
I might need these Gnome homes from Thelittlereddoor

Adorable tea towels from bespokeuprising
And you know how I love aprons like this gathering apron from FrogCreekCottage
These colors are just so happy.  Leave it to me to wait until Autumn to fall in love with summer colors.
